No other country has a manga culture similar to that of Japan.  While in the west, cartoons are mainly read by children, in Japan they are read by most every age group on every social level.  About one third of all published literature is manga, and a staggering 2,100,000,000 books are sold every year. This translates to 16.6 copies bought by each man, woman, boy, and girl in the country every year! With an average thickness of at least 2 cm per book/magazine, if stacked on top of each other, the stack would equal 11,122 mountains the height of Mt. Fuji.   The three top selling manga titles alone have a total turnover of 10,000,000 copies every single week.

The popularity of this form of literature inspired New Life League to create the Manga Bible. A not-for-profit organization in the US called NEXT was created for the purpose of copy protection and world-wide distribution of the Manga Bible.
